Cardinal Brady discharged from hospital after collapse

Cardinal Sean Brady has been discharged from hospital, after collapsing yesterday evening.

The Catholic Primate of all Ireland is said to have become weak as he celebrated confirmation mass in the parish church of Kildress.

Cardinal Brady had been officiating at a Confirmation Mass when he was taken ill.

A number of people in the congregation came to his aid after he had to lie down on the altar.

He was then brought by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital for treatment where after a thorough assessment, he was deemed fit to return home.

This morning Cardinal Brady - who's said to have an underlying blood pressure condition - is now under doctor's orders to rest at home.

In a statement after he was discharged, the Cardinal thanked the hospital staff for their care, and also said he was grateful for the prayerful support and good wishes he had received.

The Cardinal has recently been under pressure to resign after victims of abuse claimed he ignored their complaints.
