A hand-written letter from Kevin Barry on the eve of his execution during the War of Independence is estimated to fetch up to €18,000 when it goes under the hammer next week.

The poignant document, penned by the then 18-year-old medical student, was composed to his friends in a cell in Mountjoy Prison in 1920.
