Dairy plant closure leads to 50 job losses in Monaghan
Up to 50 people are to be made redundant in Co. Monaghan following the closure of the Lough Egish milk-drying plant.
However, it is understood the new €20m milk-drying facilities at Lakeland Dairies in Co. Cavan is on schedule to commence operations later this month.
The closure was first announced in September 2006 as part of an extensive restructuring plan.
A spokesperson for the company has said that the decision is in view of overall dairy market conditions, and to ensure that the co-op stays competitive.
