Gardaí close section of N4 after five-vehicle crash

Gardaí have had to close a section of the N4 in Co Westmeath following a five-vehicle collision.

The crash happened between 9.30am and 10am this morning, on the westbound lane of the N4 near Junction 11, on the Longford side of the Castlepollard Exit.

It involved four cars and a grain lorry, which has turned over.

The lorry driver has been taken to Mullingar General hospital, where his condition is not yet known.

Gardaí remain at the scene and diversions are in place. The road is not expected to re-open for a number of hours.
