A man being questioned about the murder of Catherine Smart in Cork on Easter Sunday has been released without charge.

Gardaí say the 46-year-old - who was arrested on Monday afternoon in Cork city - was released just before midnight last night and a file is being sent to the DPP.

The 57-year-old separated mother of three was found dead at her house in Bailick Court in Midleton, in east Cork, on Sunday morning.

A post mortem examination revealed she died from injuries resulting from a blow to the back of the head.

Gardaí are renewing their appeal to anyone with any information to come forward.
