McMenamin: TUI members will decide themselves on pay deal

The head of the Teachers Union of Ireland has said his members will make up their own minds on whether to accept or reject the deal on pay and reform of the public sector.

The head of the Teachers Union of Ireland has said his members will make up their own minds on whether to accept or reject the deal on pay and reform of the public sector.

The TUI executive has recommended that members reject the deal ahead of the union's annual conference in Clare next week.

General Secretary Peter McMenamin said they can't understand the Government's willingness to bail out the banks at the same time as cutting funding in education.

He said they will remain independent from other unions.
