Taxi drivers to mount campaign of action
Taxi drivers represented by SIPTU are promising a long campaign of stoppages and protest on the streets in protest over falling income levels.
The branch has also announced that it is to pull its representative from an Advisory Council at the Commission for Taxi Regulation from this morning.
They say that they have been ignored by the council, which advises the Taxi Regulator and Minister for Transport of any issues facing the industry.
SIPTU's Jerry Brennan said the lack of action on the Government's part has left them with no choice.
"The State has marginalised taxi drivers as a group of workers," Mr Brennan said.
"So inevitably all protests will have to happen on the street."
