Dublin man charged in connection with fatal shooting

A 25-year-old man was remanded in custody today in connection to a fatal shooting last month.

John Douglas, from O’Devaney Gardens in north Dublin, was charged with shooting dead a convicted criminal as he sat in a car.

Aidan Byrne was shot up to 10 times near the North Circular Road on Saturday February 20.

The Courts Service said Douglas appeared at Dublin District Court charged with the killing.

Judge Miriam Malone, President of the District Court, remanded him in custody to appear again at Cloverhill courthouse on March 19.

Byrne, a 33-year-old father-of-one from St Mary’s Mansions in Dublin’s north inner city, had been warned a number of times by gardaí that his life was in danger.

He was shot dead after being driven to a cul-de-sac off the North Circular Road.
