O'Keeffe confirms 'grade inflation' took place

The Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has confirmed in the Dáil that grade inflation took place in colleges and universities around the country.

Mr O'Keefe had ordered an investigation after concerns about the quality of graduates was raised by the chiefs of some multi-nationals operating here.

Grade inflation was also uncovered in Leaving Cert results, although the increases have largely stabilised since the State Examinations Commission was established in 2003.
