DAA told to review training after lawnmower near-miss
The Dublin Airport Authority has been told to review its training programmes after it emerged that a landing aircraft passed within feet of a worker on a ride-on lawnmover.
The incident happened in the early hours of the morning on May 29 last year as the packed holiday flight from Sharm el Sheikh came into land.
An investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Unit found that the driver of the lawnmower was equipped with inadequate radio and lighting equipment.
The report found the wingtip of the Boeing 757 passed over the mower as the plane rolled down the runway.
The DAA says it has improved its procedures in the wake of the incident.
