Hunt begins for gangland shooting gunman

Detectives were hunting a gunman today after a man was killed in Dublin’s latest gangland-style shooting.

Aidan Byrne was found with gunshot wounds to the chest in the passenger seat of a car on Drumalee Avenue off the North Circular Road at around 8.45pm last night.

He was rushed to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Mr Byrne, in his early 30s and from the East Wall area of Dublin, was shot around five times during the attack.

It is understood he had been involved in a bitter gangland feud in the north inner city.

The attack comes just days after 21-year-old Chris Emmett was killed by a gunshot blast to the face during an early morning gathering in Blanchardstown, west Dublin.

Craig Mullarney from the nearby Clonsilla area has been charged and remanded in custody in connection with the father-of-two’s death.

The scene at Drumalee Avenue was sealed off for a forensic examination and gardaí at Bridewell have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
