Kenny: Ahern is 'unfit for office'

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has accused the Minister for Justice of being 'unfit for office'.

Mr Kenny criticised the behaviour of Dermot Ahern in the Dáil during the debate on the confidence motion in former Defence Minister Willie O'Dea.

He said Minister Ahern was supposed to be overseeing standards in high office, but that he had brought politics in the Dáil to 'a new low'.

Speaking to Northern Sound at a Fine Gael meeting in Monaghan today Deputy Kenny said it had been a bad week for politics.

"What's happened in the last week - in particular arising from the O'Dea situation - has been a demonstration of just how low standards in public office at the highest level have come to in Ireland," Deputy Kenny said.

"It calls into question the judgement of the Taoiseach who is supposed to oversee those standards.

"The behaviour of a number of ministers in the Dáil during the week was simply disgraceful."
