Riverbank body identified
A body discovered on the banks of a river were tonight identified as a man missing for more than two months.
Francie Greene’s remains were spotted by a farmer along the a stretch of the River Shannon in Portdrine near Cratloe, Co Clare, yesterday afternoon.
Gardaí said a preliminary post-mortem examination has been carried out, with the results handed over to detectives.
“The investigation in to his disappearance and death is continuing,” he added.
It is understood Mr Greene, 48, may have been forcibly taken from his apartment on Hartstonge Street, Limerick, on November 28.
His family worked with investigators throughout the day to help identify his body.
A 27-year-old man was later questioned over his disappearance and was suspected of falsely imprisoning the missing man.
He was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
