Remains found in Shannon may be those of missing Limerick man

Tests are being carried out on the body of a man discovered yesterday in Co Clare.

It is believed the remains may be those of missing man Francie Greene. The 48-year-old was last seen near his apartment on Hartstonge St in Limerick in November.

The remains were discovered by a farmer in Portrine on the banks of the River Shannon in Cratloe yesterday afternoon.

A post mortem examination will be carried out at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick today to determine a cause of death.

Gardaí in Limerick are trying to establish whether the remains are those of Francie Greene and are working with Mr Greene's family to try to identify the body.

It is understood Mr Greene may have been forcibly taken from his home on November 28.

A 27-year-old man was later questioned in relation to his disappearance. He was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
