30kmh limit may be rolled out to all towns

The controversial new speed limit in parts of Dublin City Centre may be extended to towns and cities across the country.

The new 30kmh limit comes into effect this morning in areas between Bolton Street on the northside to St Stephens Green on the southside.

Motorists have criticised the move, while business groups have expressed their concern that the limit may put shoppers off travelling to the city centre.

The councillor for Dublin North West, who proposed the measure, Andrew Montague has defended his decision by saying the move would save lives.
