British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to remain in the North today to try to negotiate a deal to save its power-sharing government after making progress during all-night talks, a UK Government spokesman said.

Mr Brown had been expected to return to London for Prime Minister’s Questions at Westminster, but officials revealed that Harriet Harman will now deputise for the Prime Minister at the despatch box.
