Russia is to again permit the import of Irish pork and pork products.

The Russian market has been closed to Irish pork and pork products since the dioxin contamination just over a year ago.

Russia will be receiving Irish pigmeat again from February 1.

Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith said the market is hugely important to Ireland. It was valued at over €12m in 2007.
