Gardaí hoping to reunite baby with guardians

Gardaí are hopeful that an eight-month-old baby boy who was abandoned in Carlow will be re-united with his legal guardian in the coming days.

The baby was found in the cathedral in Carlow town on Friday afternoon.

They have confirmed that the infant was taken from his home in Nottinghamshire in England on Thursday morning.

They want to speak to a couple who were seen in a distressed state at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Carlow town on Friday.

Minutes later a member of public found the baby in a buggy in the porch of the cathedral, with a note attached giving his name and date of birth.

The child, who is said to be in good health, is in the care of the HSE.

Gardaí are working closely with British police to reunite the baby boy with his legal guardian.

The child has been in the care of the HSE and is said to be in very good health.

Gardaí are concerned for the well-being of the couple who left the baby, and are appealing for them to come forward in confidence.

It is believed the child's mother - who is no longer the legal guardian - and her partner may be in Ireland.
