The man stabbed to death in North Dublin last night is believed to have been a former member of the Defence Forces.

The 24-year-old was killed after a fight broke out between the occupants of two adjacent flats at the Gratton Wood Apartments in Donaghmede.

Six men then drove off in two seperate cars.

They then stopped on the Hole in the Wall Road and another fight broke out where the victim was stabbed.

Superintendent John Gilligan said gardaí believe they have located the knife used in the killing.

"The males who were involved in this altercation had knives," Supt Gilligan said. "We have recovered a knife."
