Schools closed due to bad weather

All primary and secondary State-run schools are to remain closed until Thursday because of the bad weather.

Third-level institutions are also making alternate arrangements because of the cold snap.

Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe took the decision to keep schools shut in the interest of student welfare.

UCD has closed its campuses in Belfield and Blackrock and Waterford Institute of Technology said lectures will not resume until Wednesday.

All Dublin Institutes of Technology, Trinity College Dublin and NUI Maynooth have postponed exams scheduled for today.

Students are advised to contact their individual colleges for further details.
