Parts of the Midlands and South were worst affected by snowfalls overnight.

Councils across the country have set up standpipes in response to water shortages.

The Environment Minister John Gormley is asking people not to leave taps running because supplies may have to be restricted to allow reservoirs to recharge.

Mr Gormley is also asking people to help their neighbours without water.

Met Eireann have said that the weather over the coming days will not be as severe as had been forecast.
