Weather hits national phone network

The weather has caused disruptions to eircom’s phone network across the country, it has emerged.

More than 8,000 faults have already been cleared this week alone, with an additional 1,757 faults have been reported in the past 24 hours. The current number of total faults stands now at 5,134.

Eircom said today that its technicians will continue to work throughout the weekend, in very difficult conditions, to restore service to customers as soon as possible.

Many secondary roads are currently impassable and the hazardous weather is hindering the efforts of workers to reach outages and restore service to some customers. In particular the worst affected areas include Kildare, Wicklow, Carlow and North Wexford.

Eircom has reminded customers that faults can be logged on the “Log a Fault” section of its website (www.eircom.ie) or through our automated customer service line 1901. Faults can be reported to either of these services 24 hours a day, seven days week.

"Eircom would like to assure all of our customers that we have put our full resources into restoring service as soon as possible and overcome the challenges posed by the severe weather conditions that are set to continue into next week," said a statement.
