Funeral of Cardinal Daly taking place
The late Cardinal Cahal Daly has been described at his funeral as a disciple of Christ who worked and prayed tirelessly for mutual understanding, peace and reconciliation.
Mourners including the Taoiseach Brian Cowen and President Mary McAleese are attending the service at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh.
The 92-year old died on New Year's Eve after a short illness.
"In so many ways, Cardinal Daly was ahead of his time," said his successor Cardinal Sean Brady, leading today's funeral mass.
"As early as 1973 he was working with other Christian leaders in the search for peace.
"Cardinal Daly remained adament, always, that justice, mutual respect and peaceful means were the only way forward."
