NRA: More grit on way to tackle ice on roads
The National Roads Authority (NRA) has said more supplies of road grit will be imported during the week following widespread shortages in several counties.
More than 19,000 tonnes of grit will be distributed to county councils for use immediately on the roads.
The supply is about one third of the total grit used in normal winter conditions.
Icy conditions remain in parts of the country today and are expected to continue for the next few days.
NRA spokesperson Sean O Neill says the current cold snap is "a 40-year event" and it was not known how long it would continue.
