Black ice affects Connacht and Munster

Drivers are again being urged to take extra care on the roads today, especially on secondary roads.

Conditions are extremely dangerous with severe black ice affecting parts of Connacht and Munster.

Many housing estates across the country are described as treacherous.

John Eagleton of Met Eireann advised motorists to consider the condition of the roads they intend to travel before setting out, as there will be no improvement in surface conditions.

"There's going to be no great improvement in the roads today and it's going to freeze hard again tonight…Some of the pavements are very dangerous too," he said.
