Man in court in connection with Galway assault

A man has appeared in court in Galway charged with an assault that has left another man fighting for his life.

The victim suffered head and facial injuries in the attack near Dominic St in the city at around 3.30am yesterday morning.

The 27-year-old man was rushed to hospital with head and facial injuries and was later transferred to Beamont Hospital in Dublin where he is said to be in a critical condition.

Dean O'Brien (aged 23) of Bishop O'Donnell Road in Galway appeared before Galway District Court charged with assault causing harm.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court again on Monday next.
