Woman rescued after car plunges off cliff

A woman was airlifted to hospital today after her car plunged off cliffs at a well-known beauty spot.

A woman was airlifted to hospital today after her car plunged off cliffs at a well-known beauty spot.

It is believed the woman in her 50s is in a stable condition after the incident at Howth summit, north Dublin, at around midday.

The Coast Guard, Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics and the Gardaí were called to the scene when the car drove over a ledge into an area known as Casana rocks.

It is understood the vehicle became wedged in a pathway.

The Coast Guard helicopter based at Dublin airlifted the woman out of the car and took her to Tallaght Hospital, south Dublin.

She was the sole occupant of the car.

The Gardaí said it was investigating the circumstances.
