Road conditions still 'treacherous', flight delays expected

Gardaí are appealing to drivers to take care as road conditions described as 'treachorous' continue to affect almost all parts of the country this afternoon.

Motorists in counties Cavan, Donegal and Meath are being advised not to travel.

And those in counties Sligo, Leitrim, Longford, and Louth are being warned of icy stretches affecting many untreated roads.

Passengers at Dublin Airport can expect delays to flights as a result of snowstorms in parts of the UK, Europe and the US.

Five people have been killed in snowstorms on America's east coast and Manchester Airport is closed.

"The transatlantic flights are experiencing delays," Siobhán Moore from the Dublin Airport Authority said. "But it is anticipated that the majority of those will depart Dublin Airport at some point in time."

She advised passengers with concerns over their flights to contact their airline before departing for the airport.
