The remains of the young Garda killed in the line of duty in Donegal have been returned to his native Co Leitrim.

Garda Gary Mc Loughlin will be laid to rest tomorrow afternoon.

The 24 year old officer died from injuries he sustained in a crash while on duty in Buncrana on Sunday morning.

Senator John Ellis, a next door neighbour of the Mc Loughlin family, says everyone is devastated by the tragedy.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that this morning that the driver of the other car involved in the collision had previously been banned from driving.

The 24-year-old is expected to face questioning once he is released from hospital.

Tributes have poured in for the young gardaí who was stationed in Buncrana.

The Taoiseach visited grieving colleagues of Mr McLoughlin yesterday and commended the 24-year-old for his bravery' in the line of duty.
