Longford gardaí arrest three in connection with burglary of elderly couple

Gardaí in Longford have arrested three men in connection with an aggravated burglary on an elderly couple's house in the county.

Three men entered the house of a 74-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man in Clondra just after 1am this morning.

The couple were held hostage in the bathroom of the house until they managed to raise the alarm.

Gardaí arrived at the scene and the three men tried to escape but were pursued and arrested.

The men, two in their 30s and one in his 20s, are being detained at Londford Garda Station under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.

The man and woman have been taken to Roscommon General Hospital where they are receiving treatment for minor injuries and shock.
