Anti-Lisbon group Cóir have described the Budget's "savage cuts" as "shameful" saying they would cause struggling families and some of the most vulnerable people in society to suffer.

Cóir spokesman, Richard Greene, said: "Having led the country into recession, the Government is now inflicting pain on those who are least able to cope with a further income cut"

He added that the Government should ease the burden on ordinary people by standing up to the EU and demanding more time to get public finances in order.
