Protestors call for money to be withheld from IMF

A group of protestors will this morning call on the Government not to donate €675m to the International Monetary Fund to support developing countries.

The Debt and Development Coalition Ireland group say that the IMF is not using the best means to aid impoverished countries.

The IMF is currently seeking $750bn (€506bn) from developed nations and our Government is expected to offer $1bn (€675m).

But Nessa Ni Chasaide says that the IMF "does not have the skills to target its funding in a way that is sensitive to the needs of poor people…It has reduced public spending on desperatley needed socail services."
