It is understood the Bishop of Limerick is in Rome for talks on his future.

Dr Donal Murray is meeting senior officials at the Vatican to discuss calls for his resignation in the wake of the Murphy report on clerical child sex abuse.

Yesterday he asked mass goers to pray for him this week as he considers his position after coming under fire in the Murphy report for not investigating complaints of abuse.

Cardinal Sean Brady has already said he is confident Dr Murray will do the right thing.

And the Irish Examiner said he has flown to Rome for talks with senior Vatican officials to discuss his resignation.

Cardinal Brady and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will meet the Pope for talks on the findings of the report.
