Mullingar General Hospital remains "off call" this morning following serious overcrowding at its Accident and Emergency department yesterday.

Mullingar General Hospital remains "off call" this morning following serious overcrowding at its Accident and Emergency department yesterday.

At one stage, there were 23 patients lying on trolleys, waiting for admission to the hospital.

The issue will be discussed at an emergency meeting, between consultants and the HSE, later today.

All ambulances are being re-directed to hospitals in Tullamore, Portlaoise and Ballinasloe.
