There are calls for the people affected by the flooding emergency to be consulted as to how the funding that is to be made available to them will be spent.

The calls come as areas around south Galway, the midlands and Limerick and Clare continue to fight rising water levels.

Those living in the worst hit areas are bracing themselves for further devestation with emergency chiefs saying next week will be crucial to the crisis with further high tides expected.

Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness is in Banagher, County Offaly visiting some of the victims.

She said they need to have an imput into how the funding will be allocated.
