Partygoer abducted and beaten

A man was abducted and beaten today as he walked home from a party.

Detectives are investigating the possibility the overnight attack in Garvagh, Co Derry, was sectarian.

The 21-year-old was walking home when he was stopped by a gang of men in a dark-coloured vehicle on the Ballynameen Road.

A police spokeswoman said: “He was assaulted, forced into the boot, then driven further, taken out of the boot, assaulted again before being put back in the boot and driven to Bamford Park, Rasharkin where he was dumped.”

The man is recovering from non-life threatening injuries in hospital.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
