Members of the public are being warned not to handle suspicious devices after two separate alerts in Dublin and Louth yesterday.

The first happened at a house in Sundale Avenue in Tallaght.

When gardaí arrived on the scene, a man told them he had lifted the device and examined it before raising the alarm.

Army personnel later removed it from the scene and made it safe at a military barracks.

A separate alert saw about 25 people evacuated from houses along Avenue Road in Dundalk yesterday when a pipe bomb was found in a local garden.

During the operation, one man became unwell and later died, following a suspected heart attack.
