Cork GP found guilty of 'professional misconduct'

A GP practising in Cork city has been found guilty of seven counts of poor professional performance and seven of professional misconduct.

Dr Iwona Kulczyk, who is originally from Poland, was handing out large amounts of prescribed tranquillisers to as many as 86 patients.

She claimed the reason for doing so was because some had threatened and intimidated her.

Following today's verdict, the Irish Medical Council directed that her practise be supervised for two years and that she report to the medical council on a regular basis.

Speaking after the hearing, Dr Kulczyk said she was happy with the outcome.
