Ryan: Biofuels regulation an opportunity for farmers
The Government has announced a new regulation obliging fuel suppliers in Ireland to include biofuels as part of their annual sales.
Under the scheme, fuel companies will have to provide an average of 4% biofuels to consumers from July next year to help reduce carbon emissions.
The move is also designed to generate an alternative, more secure energy supply to oil.
The Energy Minister Eamon Ryan said farmers were now being provided with an opportunity to diversify into biofuel generation.
