Police appeal for information following Newry assault

A 20-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Newry.

The incident happened some time between 9 and 10pm last Wednesday night in the Rathfriland road area of the town.

The victim sustained head injuries.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned by police.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have witnessed the assault to contact them.
