Gardaí warn motorists of clampdown

Gardaí are warning motorists of a major clampdown on driving offences over the long weekend.

Officers are targeting drink-driving and speeding in particular.

The enforcement operation includes compulsory breath testing and high visibility checkpoints and patrols.

Superintendent Frank Clerkin from the Garda Traffic Corps said gardaí will also be targeting drivers who use mobile phones behind the wheel.
