A murder investigation is expected to be launched later following a fatal shooting in Dublin.

It happened at around 8.30pm last night in Mulhuddart. Reports suggest it had all the hallmarks of a gangland attack.

This latest shooting happened outside a shop in Parlickstown in the Dublin 15 area.

The victim was a 23-year-old man originally from the north inner city, who had recently moved to Blanchardstown.

He was shot a number of times in the upper body.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was brought to Connolly Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene of the incident remains sealed off this morning and a full technical examination will be carried out later.

It is believed the killer fled on foot. No arrests have been made.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or anyone who has information about the shooting, to contact them.
