Lenihan discusses expenses with Oireachtas body
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has met the Oireachtas Commission to discuss the issue of expenses for TDs, Senators and government ministers.
The meeting took place last night and Mr Lenihan told reporters today that he outlined his wish to see the introduction of verifiable expenses.
The expenses regime for national politicians has come under major scrutiny in recent weeks and months following revelations about the spending of taxpayers' money by former Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue.
The Kerry South TD was forced to resign the position following the revelations, which included expensive overseas trips that coincided with prestigious race meetings in England and France.
