PAC seeks measures to prevent 'golden handshakes'

The Dáil's public spending watchdog is calling on the Minister for Finance to take measures to prevent a repeat of the Rody Molloy "golden handshake" in other state boards.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) says it is concerned that similar deals may have been done in other agencies.

Mr Molloy received a pension top-up worth more than €1m when he resigned as head of FAS last year following controversy over lavish spending on overseas travel, accommodation and entertainment.

Meanwhile, the PAC says it also wants to question FAS director Niall Saul over his claims that the board was kept in the dark about controversial spending by the agency.

The committee also wants the state training agency to provide details of an internal audit into procurement in the corporate affairs division.
