Bord na Móna plays down threat to jobs at two midlands plants
Bord na Móna and trade union representatives at two midlands power stations say claims that 500 jobs could be under threat are "alarmist".
There are plans to shut down the Lough Rea and Shannonbridge plants on health and safety grounds for prolonged periods over the next two years.
The plans have sparked fears for the future of 500 jobs.
Bord na Móna says the action is necessary while problems surrounding corrosion are dealt with and it is currently in discussions with the ESB.
Trade unions representing workers say they are also to hold meetings with the company but spokesperson Greg Ennis said they don't foresee any job losses.
