Bus Éireann has launched an investigation into a fire that broke out on a school bus in Co Laois this morning.

Forty-seven secondary school pupils were on board the privately owned coach, which was contracted out to Bus Éireann.

The driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the vehicle just after 8am while he was bringing the pupils from the Ballyroan area to Heywood Community School in Ballinakill.

All of the students were safely removed from the bus and transferred to school in another vehicle.
