Irish Kidney Association urges public to carry donor card
The Irish Kidney Association is urging the public to carry an organ donor card.
Today is the European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation.
About 2,400 people in Ireland have benefited from organ donation, but a further 600 people are waiting on transplant lists.
Thousands of people have signed up for a donor card in recent weeks, following a public appeal by scriptwriter Frank Deasy just days before he died during a liver transplant.
Colin White, Manager with the National Transplant and Dialysis Games, said Frank's story has helped to raise awareness.
He also said it is essential families talk about organ donation.
