Northern Ireland's Police Ombudsman is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was being held in police custody.

Forty-year-old John Brady took his own life in Strand Road police station in Derry yesterday.

He had been arrested in the city on Friday night in relation to an alleged assault.

The incident comes just days after four prison-service medics were suspended from duty following an investigation into the suicide of an inmate inside Maghaberry jail in Co Antrim.
