Voter turnout low in Lisbon referendum

Voting has been slow in the Lisbon Treaty referendum so far today.

The turnout in country areas has been lower than that in Dublin where over a fifth of the electorate had voted by early afternoon.

Polling stations remain open until 10pm tonight and voters have been reminded they do not need a polling card to vote.

However they should bring proof of identification.
