€800m Ballymun regeneration plan gets go-ahead

Development company Treasury Holdings has received planning permission for the €800m regeneration of Ballymun town centre.

The scheme in north Dublin, close to the airport, which will be called 'Spring Cross', includes 360 apartments, 60,000 square metres of retail, 35,000 square metres of offices and 11,000 square metres of other uses including cinemas, bowling alleys, a public library and restaurants.

The three-year construction phase will create 2,000 jobs, the company said, in what is one of the largest planning permissions ever granted in Dublin.

On completion, 'Spring Cross' will support 8,500 direct and indirect jobs said Niall Kavanagh, Treasury's director of development responsible for the project.

Boss at parent company Real Estate Opportunities Ray Horney said: "This project is a flagship in the company's Irish portfolio and we are confident we can commence construction in 2010."
